Failure chain

Saltwater exposure becomes a system problem when zones, access and connections are reviewed separately.

The material decision is not only “will it rust?”. A useful marine review connects exposure, walking conditions, structural supports, hold-downs, drainage and the maintenance route.

Map the structure from shoreline to waterline before selecting the profile.

A pier, aquaculture platform or coastal maintenance route can cross several exposure zones in a few metres. Mark the zone of each member so material requirements and interfaces are not hidden inside one general “marine” label.

Approve the member in its exposure zone and load path—not from a colour sample.

A sample can confirm section, colour, surface and processing. It cannot validate the complete marine structure, load combinations, connections, foundations, walking safety or field installation.

Can one FRP specification cover salt spray, splash and immersion zones?

Not automatically. Exposure duration, fluid, temperature, UV, structural role, connection and required project standards differ by zone. Map the member location and state the required properties.

Which grating is suitable for a dock, marina or coastal walkway?

Selection depends on load, span, support, mesh/open area, surface, drainage/light-through requirements, traffic type, panel layout and hold-downs. For public or barefoot use, state that requirement explicitly.

Can FRP replace an existing timber or steel member at the same size?

Matching dimensions do not prove equivalent stiffness, strength, connection behavior or system performance. Send the existing drawing, loads, supports and connection details for review.

Can cut, drilled and labelled parts be supplied?

Basic secondary processing can be reviewed against a controlled drawing. Confirm tolerances, hole/edge distances, part labels, quantity, packing length and inspection requirements before production.

Does this page claim every FRP profile is suitable for offshore or submerged service?

No. Offshore, submerged, public-access and regulated applications need project-specific properties, test documents and engineering approval. The quotation should state exactly what Haikuo is supplying and what remains under the system designer.
